"Charlotte"
Johnston County: May 4, 2007
On May 3rd, USERL received a call from a concerned person regarding a horse. They had advertised looking for a companion horse to buddy with a senior horse of their own. Someone answering their ad had a horse that they were interested in. Upon visiting the horse, however, it was clear the mare was severely malnourished. They convinced the owner to give her to them (rather than the $300 she was asking for her). However, they could not afford to rehab her and were concerned for the other animals on the farm. The mare, now named "Charlotte", was donated to USERL. She is a beautiful 23 year old Saddlebred mare and is doing well in quarantine.
The property upon which she came from is under investigation.
UPDATE!
June 5, 2007
Charlotte is doing wonderful and blossoming into a beautiful mare. She has a very sweet disposition and is easy to handle. It was discovered during quarantine that she has "Heaves" (also called COPD). Luckily, it is very mild and responded easily to oral medication. Her rainrot is healing well also and her "spots" give her an unusual speckled chestnut coat.
Charlotte is looking for a foster home to give her a good start on her new life. If you think you could be the one, contact info@userltriangle.org <mailto:info@userltriangle.org> to learn more on becoming a USERL foster.

June 5, 2007: Charlotte's rainrot is healing and she is now bald long her back where it was most severe. The skin is now healthy and will grow new hair.
July 11, 2007: Charlotte continues to blossom into the beautiful Saddlebred mare that she truly is. Her nature is very easy and a joy to be around.
