August 16, 2008:
Johnston County Animal Control was contacted by an owner that was previously investigated this year.  The owner wanted to surrender the horse because he couldn't handle the care anymore.  The county contacted USERL to take the gelding into the program.  The gelding was transported to a USERL quarantine/rehab foster farm where he is doing very well.  He's a 20 yr. old Tennessee Walking Horse with a very sweet personality.  His weight problems are apparently due to teeth issues, as he cannot chew hay or grass very well.  Now named "Mannie", he is eating a high quality senior feed and hay stretcher and will have his teeth floated when his weight is improved.

September 13, 2008:
Mannie is improving slowly as his teeth are in poor shape.  He will have to be brought into the clinic for a thorough float job next month.  His attitude is brighter, but still quiet.
Mannie came in lame ono his front left leg.  There is a scar on the point of his shoulder from an old injury that may be causing this.  It does not seem painful, so may be more of a mechanical issue.

October 11, 2008:
Mannie is full of himself!  His attitude is so much brighter and he is eating much better now.  He loved the attention he got at this past Barn Days with the Buckhorn Blazers 4-H Club.  He is gaining weight and his lameness has improved some as well.

April/2009:
Mannie is healthy and ready for a new home.  See his adoption information!
