May 13, 2009:
USERL assisted Nash County with a neglect case.  Before the horses could be picked up and transported (the owners had agreed to surrendering them), a good sumaritan citizen found them escaped in the road and purchased them.  She contacted USERL, and was rehabilitating them until the loss of her job.  USERL accepted them into the Horse Program to complete their rehab and find them new homes.
The private rescuer did a wonderful job with their rehab, with one being more difficult to put weight on then the other.
These two photos are from the investigation in May/2009, before the private rescuer purchased them.
September/2009:
Both horses are doing well.  The appaloosa had already gained most of his weight back with the private rescuer.  He is now almost completely rehabbed, with just his topline (mucle) to work on.  Named Applejack (below left), he is now with a great USERL foster that will work with him and find out his training level.  The bay, named Buck (below right), is slowly gaining weight and is now with a great foster family and doing great.  Buck will be a companion only horse due to an old injury to his left hind stifle.
