March 8, 2010:
Through good civilians and the Orange County Animal Services, a Trakehner mare was surrendered to USERL.  The mare is in poor condition at a body score of 3.  She was transported to a USERL quarantine foster farm and is doing well.

April 10, 2010:
The Trakehner mare, Carpe Diem II, is recovering and enjoying turnout after her quarantine.  Carpe has an old bowed tendon injury and had some significant thrush in all four hooves.  She also had rainrot with some areas deeply infected from it.
The rainrot and thrush is resolving quickly and so is her weight.  The bowed tendon will be monitored to see if it can be managed for any riding.
Carpe's owner gave USERL the registration papers to hopefully be able to more easily place her in a loving home.  She was shown in dressage in her past.
Carpe loves bathes and TLC from her caretakers and is easy to handle.  A foster home is needed to complete her rehabilitation before she can be placed up for adoption.

September/2010:
Carpe is looking fabulous!  She is ready to move on to a new home or foster.  She will only, at best, be suitable for very light riding (walk only), or as a pasture puff to live out her retirement.  She is dominant with other horses, so is not a good match as a companion horse, but a super love bug with people and perfectly happy to be someone's pocket pony to love on.  Carpe has excellent ground manners, stands for farrier, ties and bathes (love bathes!!).

If you are interested in a "pet" horse to love on - Carpe is your gal!
