"Rejoice"
September 26, 2007
This is a new mare, Rejoice, that has come into USERL from a Sheriff's investigation in Edgecombe County. Her story is a sad one, as her emaciated pasture mate died on the scene before a veterinarian could arrive to humanely euthanize him. They were out with goats and chickens (also removed from the property) and being fed whatever was thrown to them (grass clippings, dogfood, table scraps).
Rejoice is in a quarantine facility getting evaluated for a feeding program, etc. Her manner is quiet and subdued after the ordeal she has been through. She is only 5-6 years old. Many thanks to USERL investigator, Teresa Campbell, and a veterinarian that responded to the call and rushed to the scene. Updates on her recovery will be posted here. She will need a foster home once she finishes quarantine.
