An injured mare finds refuge with USERL
February 13, 2008:
USERL received a call from a veterinarian regarding a horse with challenging injuries to her hind legs. The owners could not afford the care to treat her, and the injuries were not serious enough to warrant euthanasia. Hence, the owners donated the mare to USERL in hopes of her making a full recovery and finding a new life and family for her.
The mare, now named Ruby, was evaluated that same day at an equine clinic. No surgery was needed, but daily cleaning, bandaging and strong antibiotics were required for the wounds to successfully heal.
February 26, 2008:
Ruby is healing very well from her injuries and has remained sound throughout the healing process. She is a very sweet mare and it is anticipated that she will be adoptable as a riding horse. A previous coggins listed her as a Quarterhorse, but her build, etc. liken her more to a Morgan or cross. She will be evaluated for riding soon.
