January/2010: News Release: Sampson County, NC
John Christopher Jackson and Elizabeth Jackson have each been arrested and charged with one each misdemeanor cruelty to animals and misdemeanor to instigate cruelty to animals in Sampson County, NC stemming from an investigation at Carolina Gaits Farm where 5 malnourished horses were seized on June 25, 2009 (pictured below at arrival to a USERL foster farm). John Christopher Jackson is also charged with filing a false police report. More charges may be filed pending further investigation results.
John Christopher Jackson has a past history of suspensions from the Tennessee Walker Horse Shows, due to infractions of cruelty (soring) under the Federal Horse Protection Act, to horses in his care.
The five horses were seized from Carolina Gaits Farm in Sampson County after numerous attempts for the owners, Chris Jackson and Beth Powell Jackson, to concede with basic care. The horses were left for days without water or food in a barn with exceedingly high temperatures. Their body conditions were thin indicating lack of nutrition.

All the horses pictured above recovered quickly and easily with basic feeding care (twice per day normal ration).
This has been a long and exhausting investigation where several different crimes were being investigated. USERL wishes to thank the Sampson County Sheriff's department for their commitment to helping those that cannot speak for themselves.
More updates on this case will be posted as they occur.
