Sassy and Tank make a Special visit to The Governor Morehead School for the Blind to meet some friends!
Sassy and Tank, two USERL miniature horses, visited The Governor Morehead School for the Blind in April for the privilege of meeting the students.  USERL NC - Triangle Region Volunteer, Lori Blake, who works at the school as a middle and high school science teacher arranged for the visit.  Lori states, "Many students have Sassy's story in the book. I have used Sassy's story to help students understand how to properly take care of a horse, and how unexpected events like the drought of 2007 can make caring for a horse expensive and difficult. Sassy's visit has also been a great opportunity for students to make a connection between reading and the "real world".
Sassy began her visit by "signing" her book, above left, with the help of USERL volunteers Lisa Godwin and Lori Blake.  This book tells of the events and challenges she faced after being found severely neglected by her owner.  Read her story here.  Lori, above right, shows her "signature".
Michael (above left), a student at the school, meets Sassy.  And Dom, above right, meets Tank.  Both Sassy and Tank really enjoyed their visit with the students!
At left, Sassy and Tank take a break for some grazing.  Sassy, being herself, rolled in the grass to refresh.

Thank you to Lori Blake, Lisa Godwin, Susan Lee and Beth Williams for donating their time to make this visit possible!  And thank you to the volunteers that groomed Sassy and Tank to get them ready.

And a special thank you to the students of The Governor Morehead School for the Blind for making us feel welcome during our visit!
