"Skippy"
May 25, 2007:
Johnston County called USERL for assistance with an abandoned horse in poor condition. USERL picked up the gelding and transported him to a quarantine facility.
Skippy is about 20 yrs. old. He's lethargic, infested with lice and blind in his left eye. It is hopeful he will make a full recovery. His nature is sweet and loving.
A special thank you to Johnston County Animal Control Services for their diligence with horse cases!
May 27, 2007:
USERL volunteers sacrifice one day of the holiday weekend to help care for the horses in quarantine.

UPDATE! June 23, 2007

Skippy has been with a special USERL rehab foster for several weeks now and is doing great! His lice infestation is resolved and his coat is now gleaming. He's starting to fill in alittle and now has energy (anemia from malnutrition and lice had made him very lethargic). He's easy to handle and very sweet. A special thank you to his foster who is taking such great care of him in his recovery!

"Skippy" now has a skip to his step now that the lice are gone and he's receiving good nutrition.

Wow! What a looker Skippy has turned out to be. Not only has he gained alot of his weight back, but his muscle tone is already back as well. He now sports well-defined muscles!
Skippy has not been evaluated under saddle yet as he quit sweating during his rehab (a common problem with malnourished horses). He is now sweating again, but it will be fall before he is worked under saddle.

Many thanks to his wonderful foster, Susan Lee! She has done a magnificent job with him, and many others before him.
