Wake County Gelding Finds Shelter with USERL
July 18, 2008:
A gelding, with a Body Condition Score of 3, was accepted into the USERL Horse Program earlier today. He was surrendered to Wake County Animal Control during an animal cruelty investigation. The gelding was taken to NCSU - College of Veterinary Medicine for dental work, vaccinations and coggins - and then brought to a USERL Triangle Region Quarantine/Rehab foster farm.
He is lame but it is hopeful that he is just trimmed too short as his hooves are shorn to the live laminae. He will be re-evaluated when his body condition is improved.
October 9, 2008:
The gelding is now called "Thomas" and has rehabilitated beautifully with his weight. However, his lameness persists so he is scheduled for a veterinary evaluation to determine the cause (navicular, founder, arthritis, etc.). His nature is very sweet and he's been a joy for his fosters.
