February 10, 2011: UPDATE!
USERL was contacted by an owner, as well as the veterinarian, about a miniature horse in need.  The owner could not provide adequate veterinary care for a wire fence injury that had occurred last summer.  He was in great pain and non-weight bearing on the injured leg.

December 16, 2010:
NC Randolph County Animal Control Services seized 3 horses December 2nd, following months of investigation and education, from a Sophia NC resident, Martha Montgomery. The horses were in poor weight condition, having deteriorated over the past several months.

October 5, 2010:
On October 3rd, a horse was reported running loose on the road in Johnston County.  A nearby good samaritan caught her and called Animal Services for assistance, who in turn asked USERL to take her into our program.  She is emaciated and needs special care for weight gain and a full recovery.  Read more...

Meet "Nizzy", the newest member of the USERL - NC Triangle Horse program.  Her owner sadly fell on hard financial times and was relocating out of state after her home going into foreclosure, etc.  Read more...
April 14, 2011:  UPDATE!
A stray pony was accepted into the program from Johnston County Animal Services.  She was found loose Sunday, and is very thin.  The little mare is shy, but sweet and appears to have a chronic skin condition.  She is currently in quarantine and doing very well thus far.
November 5, 2011:  UPDATE!
On Nov. 4th, Granville County and concerned citizens contacted USERL about a horse in poor condition needing assistance.  The owner has been trying to care for the horse, but had 12 horses total and just couldn't manage it financially.  Read more...
Orphan Filly finds refuge after loss of mom
July 27, 2011:   UPDATE!
The NC Triad Region took in a mare and foal from a Virginia cruelty investigation this past Monday.  The mare, sadly, went down and could not be saved.  She was emaciated, with nasal discharge, fever and little milk.  Her foal, now an orphan, was transported to the Triangle Region rehab farm to continue her rehab.  The two month old filly, "Stori", is very thin.

January 1, 2012:
2011 ended with a busy month, and began with a new horse in the program.  This Palomino gelding was surrendered by his owner during a cruelty investigation.  Two other horses, in good weight, are being rehomed to private parties.  Conditions were unsanitary from small deeply muddy enclosures, and this aged gelding required more care than the owner could provide.  Read more...
