April 1, 2009:
Two stallions and a gelding were surrendered in Wilson County during a cruelty investigation in which horses were malnourished and living in squalid conditions.  The owner, George Edward Lee Parker, has been charged with 3 counts of animal cruelty and is being monitored closely on the care of the remaining animals.
All three surrendered horses were transported to USERL Quarantine facilities and received immediate veterinary treatment.  Several were lethargic and one stallion has pressure sores from being down.  They will remain in quarantine for a minimum of 2 weeks before being moved to USERL foster farms.  All three have experienced "refeeding" issues but have responded well and are now bright and alert.

See WRAL news story.

All three of these horses rehabilitated beautifully!  The two stallions were castrated and they were "tuned up" or put in full training and are now well-mannered geldings.  Chrysler has been adopted and Ford is now available for adoption (very nice riding horse).  Updated photos of Chevy (chestnut) are coming soon!
Ford was rehabilitated, castrated and put into training to fine tune his rusty riding skills.  He is a wonderful horse!  You can see his adoption on our main affiliate website: www.userl.org/Ford.html
Chrysler was rehabilitated, castrated and had a successful surgery to fix an injury to his penis (thank you NCSU - College of Veterinary Medicine!).  He has been with a trainer and is now adopted!
