Five horses surrendered during cruelty investigation in Wilson County

March 27, 2009:
Three horses, a foal and a miniature horse were surrendered during an investigation in Wilson County in which horses were found to be in very poor condition and living in filth and debris.
The owner, Johnny Ray Whitley, 58, of 5310 U.S. 264 Alt., E. in Wilson, has been charged with 6 counts of animal cruelty.
The horses are being treated for lice and beginning a refeeding program. All are doing well and will need foster homes once they clear quarantine.
