Two horses from a Durham County Case quarantined at USERL
September 7, 2007:
Two horses were surrendered to Durham County Animal Control during an investigation of abuse. Both have callused, painful sores from being ridden hard with improperly fitted gear.
Both are geldings, one being a Quarter Horse or Quarter cross and the other a gaited breed.
The gray is a body condition score of a 4 with a very painful girth rub.
The pinto is a body condition score of 2.5. He has pronounced withers that have taken the brunt of an improperly fitted saddle. He is also blind in his left eye.

These boys have cleared the first phase of quarantine and enjoyed their first romp in the big pasture today. They are doing very good and are well-behaved gentlemen. The pinto gelding is 10-12 yrs. old and is definitely a Saddlebred. He is now named King's Ransom. The gray gelding Quarter cross is also 10-12 years old and has been named Kaleb. Their painful saddle/girth sores are healing well.

King and Kaleb share a snack.
