Highlights from the 2007 Equine Cruelty Investigator Course
The Equine Cruelty Investigation Course was held September 21-23rd and was a great success! Seventeen Animal Control /Law Enforcement Officers and nineteen civilians learned about many aspects of Equine Cruelty Investigations such as nutrition, vital signs of the horse, health issues of neglected horses, body condition scoring, criminal law and more.
USERL investigators taught the course with guest speakers Joan Cunningham, a NC Assistant Attorney General (Criminal Law) and George Ferguson of Blue Seal (Nutrition).
The body condition scoring consisted of 6 horses and 1 donkey to emphasize the standardization of the Henneke system regardless of breed or conformation.
USERL would like to thank NCSU Equine Educational Unit and NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine for the use of their wonderful facilities for this training.
