Sassy's Road to Recovery - Page 10
December 12, 2007:
So many have been following the inspiring story of Sassy, a miniature mare who was seized in Harnett County on August 15th of this year.
The owners, Alex Smith and Tiffany Conley, pled guilty to 1 count misdemeanor animal cruelty, received a suspended 12 month sentence and can no longer own horses.
Sassy was awarded to Harnett County, who has given permanen custody of the little mare to USERL. Many thanks to Harnett County for their diligent work on this case.
And the best news is, she's now completely healthy. Her right eye has only a very small scar and her left eye has some sight in it as well. An incredible recovery for a remarkable little mare!

Sassy was adopted into a new, loving home at Christmas. Merry Christmas, Sassy!
But before she moved to her new home, Sassy returned to NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine to surprise everyone with Christmas cheer, and much deserved Thank You's!
Dr. Keller of NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, who tirelessly cared for Sassy during her stay at the hospital, was thrilled to see Sassy and her new found health (photos above). Sassy gave her thanks to Dr. Keller and others at the hospital by posing for photos and being her adorable self. Many thanks to Dr. Keller, Dr. Breuhaus, the talented veterinary technicians, and the Opthamology and Pharmacy departments for their excellent care and support of this little mare. Sassy is on to her new life, and has all of you to thank for it!
