Sassy continues to blossom and capture the hearts of all who meet her. Today she was body clipped by a USERL volunteer, Barara Cohen. The continuing warm temperatures were a concern as she began growing her winter coat. Sassy did very well for her clipping, standing still most of the time.
Thank you, Barbara, for volunteering to do this for Sassy!

Sassy zips around the farm feeling "cooler" with her new clipped haircoat. Her energy is great and her eyes are doing wonderful!

Barbara Cohen and Sassy - October 18, 2007

Sassy is filling out nicely with fat and muscle returning where it should be. Her diet is simple (hay and feed) and she is gaining weight easily. Exercise has been important to rebuild the atrophied muscles from lack of use and malnutrition. Her heart is now stronger and her mobility is completely normal! Of course, it helped that Sassy was so small. An average size horse would have been almost impossible to support through this rehabilitation. Sassy is definitely a very lucky horse to have had all who have been involved with her rescue: Tori - Harnett Cnty's appointed Cruetly Investigator; Harnett County Animal Control, NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Neuse River Veterinary Hospital and all the USERL volunteers that have given selflessly to care for her throughout her rehabilitation. Sassy and USERL thank you for all you have done and are doing for her!
